 The Ivy Creek Natural Area is a 215-acre park with over six miles of walking trails and much natural vegetation.  Located off Earlysville Road the Ivy Creek Natural Area is about 20 minutes from Cedar Spring Inn.  On the first Saturday of every month the Monticello Bird Club offers a bird walk at Ivy Creek Natural Area at 7:30am.  The Bird Club also offers these upcoming events:

The Shenandoah National Park celebrates it’s 75th year this summer.  Plan now for your next hike by making it a real vacation.  Cedar Spring Inn is just 20 minutes from an entrance to the park where you can access the Big Meadows area/Byrd Visitor Center and take advantage of the programs scheduled for the summer.   Visit Rapidan Camp, President Hoover’s summer retreat; learn about the park bears and birds of prey; take the Appalachian Trail Hike, the Meadow Walk, the Hawksbill Mountain Hike or the Discovery Walk.

After all this, return to the Inn, enjoy the pool and hot tub or take a steam or sauna.

Here are two special cooking events at Barboursville Winery to put on your calendar: On Tuesday, August 9, plan on attending the Grilling Class at 6:30pm. The class is $95/person which includes a light meal. On Tuesday, September 13, plan on attending the Gnocchi Class at 6:30pm. This class is also 3 hours in length and includes a light meal for $75/person.

On Saturday, August 20, Palladio Restaurant at Barboursville Winery will host the Guest Chef Diego Gottardo of Casa Vinicola Zonin in Italy. The restaurant will feature a 4 course meal paired with 5 Barboursville wines to celebrate the first production of Petit Verdot.

Here’s a vacation idea:  Become a member of the archaeological research team at Montpelier, James Madison’s home.  You can spend the week (Sunday through the following Saturday) this August working on the dig at Montpelier, learning from professionals uncovering the hidden story of this historic treasure.  Cedar Spring Inn is located halfway between Montpelier and the city of Charlottesville.  Spend the days at Montpelier and the nights enjoying the restaurants of Charlottesville.  Add a dip in the pool or use the hot tub, steam room or sauna when you return for the night.  What could be better!

Every Sunday in the summer (and sometimes into fall) the property at King Family Vineyard is the site of the Roseland Polo Match beginning at 1:30pm.  Guests are invited to bring shade and a picnic and enjoy the match, weather permitting.  King Family Vineyard also hosts First Wednesday Roast and Toast on the first Wednesday of each month.  On Wednesday, July 6th, the tasting room will be open until 8:00pm and there will be music by Applejack Jam.  For more information go to
